Do you need 25k to day trade futures?

I'm curious, is it necessary to have a capital of 25,000 dollars to engage in day trading futures? Is this a hard and fast rule, or are there other factors that come into play? For instance, could someone with less capital still participate in day trading futures, albeit with more caution and risk management? Additionally, are there any alternative strategies or methods that could be employed for those with limited funds but still interested in this market?
