Is Earth getting closer to the Sun?

Excuse me, but I've been wondering about something that's been bugging me for a while. It's the question of whether or not Earth is actually getting closer to the Sun. I know that our orbit is elliptical, but does that mean we're slowly inching our way towards the big ball of fire in the sky? I've heard some people say that's the case, but I'm not sure if it's true. Can you shed some light on this for me? Is Earth really getting closer to the Sun, or is this just a myth that's been floating around for ages? Is Earth getting closer to the Sun?

Although this may seem insignificant, the cumulative effect of this mass loss over time is substantial.

The primary cause of this mass loss is nuclear fusion, a process wherein hydrogen atoms fuse to form helium, releasing vast amounts of energy in the process.

As a result of this continuous mass loss, the Earth's orbit gradually expands, with a shift of approximately 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) per year.
