Does Coinbase have real Bitcoin?

I heard about Coinbase and its involvement in the cryptocurrency market, specifically with Bitcoin. However, I'm not sure if the Bitcoin on Coinbase is real or just some sort of digital representation. I want to understand if Coinbase actually holds real Bitcoin that can be bought and sold, or if it's just a platform for trading digital assets based on Bitcoin's value.
