The Kennedy half dollar is a 50-cent coin issued by the United States Mint to commemorate the assassinated President John F. Kennedy. It was first minted in 1964 and its composition has changed over time due to various factors such as the cost of silver. Initially, it contained a high percentage of silver, but later versions were made of a copper-nickel clad composition. The coin features a portrait of President Kennedy on the obverse and the Presidential Coat of Arms on the reverse.
