I'm trying to understand the concept of mathematical functions, specifically onto and injective functions. I want to know if the term 'onto' is the same as 'injective' in the context of function properties.
The concept of onto and one-to-one functions is fundamental in understanding the behavior of mathematical transformations and their applications.

A function is said to be onto, or surjective, when every element in the codomain is mapped to by at least one element in the domain. This means that the range of the function, which is the set of all outputs, coincides with the codomain, the set of all possible outputs.

Conversely, a function that maps each element in the domain to a unique element in the range, with no two distinct domain elements mapping to the same range element, is called one-to-one or injective.
