Should you invest idle cash?

I have some extra cash that I'm not currently using and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to invest it. I'm considering various options like stocks, bonds, or maybe even real estate, but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk or if there are better ways to utilize my idle cash.
