Could you please explain the reason behind the naming of the term "wormhole"? I'm quite curious as to why it's called that and what kind of concept or idea it represents. Could you elaborate on the origin and significance of this term in the context of, perhaps, physics or cosmology? Additionally, I'm also interested in knowing if there are any parallels or similarities between the concept of a wormhole in the scientific realm and its usage or interpretation in other fields, such as cryptocurrency or finance? Thank you for your insights! Why is it called wormhole?

The concept of a "wormhole" was introduced in 1957 by the renowned American physicist John Wheeler. Wheeler's inspiration for the term stemmed from the literal holes left behind by worms in fruits and timber.

Prior to Wheeler's coinage, these theoretical entities were referred to as one-dimensional tubes or bridges. This earlier nomenclature, however, failed to capture the intuitive essence of what a wormhole represents.

Wheeler's choice of terminology was not only descriptive but also metaphorically apt. It invoked the idea of a bridge connecting two distant points in space, much like the tunnels created by worms.
