Excel offers two powerful functions, HLOOKUP and VLOOKUP, which are used to retrieve data from tables based on specific criteria. HLOOKUP is particularly useful when your comparison values, or the keys to the information you seek, are arranged horizontally across the top row of a data table.

With HLOOKUP, you can specify a range of cells that contains your data table and the row number in which you want to search for a matching value. The function then returns the value from the same relative position in another row, specified by you, within the same column as the matching value.

On the other hand, VLOOKUP is designed for scenarios where your comparison values are organized vertically in a column to the left of the data you wish to retrieve. This function allows you to select a range of cells that encompasses your data table and then enter the value you're searching for along with the column number where you expect to find the corresponding data.
