I'm curious about how lightning actually works. I've seen it many times during thunderstorms, but I don't understand the science behind it. How does it form and why does it strike the ground or other objects?
The accumulation of charges continues until a threshold is reached where the insulating capacity of the air is no longer sufficient. This point of saturation is crucial as it marks the beginning of the electrical discharge process.
