What is the ACP & how does it work?

The ACP is a government benefit program operated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that provides discounts on monthly broadband internet access service and a one-time discount certain connected devices. The ACP monthly service and device discounts are cannot be transferred to other individuals or households.

The Affordable Connectivity Program ( ACP) is a United States government-sponsored program that aims to provide wireless internet for low-income households. Several companies have signed on to participate in the program, including Verizon Communications, Frontier Communications, T-Mobile, Spectrum, Cox, AT&T, Xfinity, Optimum and Comcast.

Who qualifies for the ACP?

If you or your child or dependent participate in certain government assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, or other programs If you or anyone in your household already receives a Lifeline benefit Note: You may qualify for the ACP through a participating provider’s existing low-income program.

When did the ACP become law?

Congress mandated the creation of the ACP as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which became law in November 2021. The ACP continues to provide eligible households with a discount on broadband services and connected devices, but with changes from the EBB such as program eligibility criteria and the program benefit amount.
