Are trade paperbacks better?

Hey there, I've been hearing a lot about trade paperbacks lately and I'm curious about them. Are they really better than the traditional hardcover books? I mean, they seem more convenient to carry around and store, but I'm not sure if the quality of the pages and printing is as good. What are your thoughts on this? Do you prefer trade paperbacks or hardcovers, and why?
