Where does Buda Texas get its water?

The partnership between GBRA and the local authorities ensures a reliable and consistent supply of clean drinking water to our community. The advanced treatment facilities at the San Marcos Water Treatment Plant play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and safety of the water we consume.

Currently, the majority of our water supply, accounting for 70% of our total consumption, is sourced from GBRA water. This water is transported through pipelines from Canyon Lake and undergoes rigorous treatment processes at the San Marcos Water Treatment Plant to ensure it meets the highest standards for drinking water.

The remaining 30% of our water needs are met through pumping from the Edwards Aquifer, a natural underground reservoir of water. This aquifer is carefully monitored and regulated by the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District to preserve its sustainability and protect the surrounding ecosystem.

The Edwards Aquifer, on the other hand, is a valuable natural resource that supports numerous plant and animal species in the region. Its careful management and regulation are essential for maintaining the ecological balance and preserving the aquifer's long-term viability.
