Why do people keep USDT?

I'm curious about one thing. Given the volatility and riskiness associated with cryptocurrencies, why do so many people choose to hold USDT, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar? Isn't the purpose of investing in cryptocurrencies to seek higher returns and growth potential, rather than settling for a stable, risk-free asset?
