Gucci is the latest luxury brand to begin accepting crypto payments, such as Bitcoin, Dogcoin and Shiba Inu.

Gucci has announced that it’s going to start accepting crypto payments at a handful of its American stores.

The designer brand is also planning to make digital assets a payment method across the U.S. by the end of the summer.

According to Vogue Business, customers who want to transact using crypto will be emailed a QR code — enabling them to complete a transfer from their wallet.

Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Shiba Inu and Dogecoin — as well as five stablecoins — are going to be accepted.

It’s reported that stores in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta and Las Vegas will be among the first to take the plunge.

In a statement to the news outlet, Gucci’s CEO Marco Bizzarri said:

“Gucci is always looking to embrace new technologies when they can provide an enhanced experience for our customers. Now that we are able to integrate cryptocurrencies within our payment system, it is a natural evolution for those customers who would like to have this option available to them.”

Crypto-Friendly Luxury Brand

Luxury brands have found compelling use cases for blockchain technology — not least because these databases allow them to issue certificates of authenticity for high-end items that cannot be falsified.

Gucci has also released its own non-fungible tokens of late — and those who invest in these NFTs have been able to benefit from early access to upcoming collections.

The fashion house isn’t the first upmarket brand to embrace digital assets – it comes at a time when premium companies are trying to appeal to those who may be crypto-rich but cash-poor.
