What is a programmable network?

A programmable network is one in which the behavior of network devices and flow control is handled by software that operates independently of network hardware. The fundamental nature of programmable networks is to separate the underlying physical hardware from the control software of a device.

What is software programmability?

Software programmability highly depends on the bus availability and locality of data for tasks running on the individual processors. If memory accesses are not guarded correctly, the locks and data races (as addressed in more detail in the software synchronization chapter) can lead to deadlocks and potentially functionally incorrect systems.

Is programmability available in my region?

This feature is being gradually rolled out across regions and might not be available yet in your region. Programmability tools are currently developed API-first, meaning new properties and functionality will first be exposed in the latest API versions made available.
