Can you overuse your adrenal glands?

Can you actually overuse your adrenal glands, or is that just a myth? I've heard that the adrenal glands, which are responsible for releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol in response to stress, can become exhausted if they're constantly activated. But is that really possible? Can our bodies really deplete these glands to the point where they can't function properly anymore? And if so, what are the signs and symptoms of adrenal gland overuse? How can we prevent it from happening in the first place?
