Korean citizens are issued a national ID card (Korean: 주민등록증; Hanja: 住民登錄證; RR: jumin deungnok jeung) when reaching age 17. This card contains a unique Resident Registration Number (Korean: 주민등록번호; Hanja: 住民登錄番號; RR: jumin deungnok beonho). The first six numbers indicate the citizen's date of birth, while the last seven numbers includes information such as where the birth was registered. This resident registration number is used by Korean citize…i-PIN (Internet Personal Identification Number; Korean: 아이핀) is a "commercial" alternative to the Resident Registration Number used in South Korea for on-line identification. Because of the increasing usage of Resident Registration Number for on-line services make it open for the rampant identity frauds and inefficiencies, it is a comprehensive new way for South Korean internet users to engage the web.
