What is the ntap program?

The new technology add-on payment ( NTAP) program is a payment system designed by Congress to encourage the uptake of new and costly medical technologies (1) in the hospital setting under the Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) in Medicare Part A.

Notably for medical devices, the IPPS Proposed Rule includes a proposal to revise the calculation of NTAP for novel drugs and devices from a 50 percent add-on payment to 65 percent, effective FY 2021. The Vyxeos NTAP will support Medicare beneficiaries' access to Vyxeos when they are treated in certain inpatient hospital settings.
