Are kunas still accepted in Croatia?

After December 31, 2025, kuna coins will no longer be exchangeable at any institution, including the Croatian National Bank. This decision is aimed at streamlining the country's monetary system and reducing the circulation of outdated or unnecessary coins.

However, kuna coins will enjoy a more limited exchange period. Holders of kuna coins will have until December 31, 2025, to exchange them for other forms of currency or deposit them into their bank accounts. This deadline provides ample time for the public to adapt to the new regulations.
